We spent a lovely Saturday at the Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney last month...
(I lost $5)
We celebrated Anzac Day the proper Australian way...at the pub! Last year, we were traveling around the country in a Grateful Dead campervan during this holiday, so we were excited to get to experience it this year. Anzac Day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian & New Zealand forces during WWI.
Every pub in Australia is packed with people playing two-up (a gambling game that involves a "spinner" throwing two coins in the air-- players gamble on whether the coins will fall with both heads up or both tails up. It was a common game played by Aussie & Kiwi soldiers).
It's only legal to play the game on Anzac Day. We went to the Woollahra Hotel and it was crazy packed-- loud and loose and fun. Thanks to a friend who was hosting the two-up, I got to be the spinner for a round!
We have had some crazy weather here the past few weeks-- flooding and rain and hail! Luckily we made it inside before it started pouring.
Last weekend, we hosted a fundraiser at our apartment to raise money for AIME. John is running the City2Surf race again this year and all proceeds go toward this organization (a charity that gives indigenous high school kids the skills, opportunities, belief and confidence to finish school at the same rate as their peers).
We charged admission.. and played beer bong, flip cup, and had a good ole American-college time. We raised over $500.. thanks, friends!
If you would like to donate to this cause, check out John's fundraising page:

Cheers, yall!!
