Why hello!!
First things first: Kate and William and baby cutie Prince George are coming to see me! Can't wait to show them around and introduce Rudy to our British family.
We are just trucking along over here....
We celebrated a Kentucky win (the first game) with Bloody Mary's and quiche..
Played cards in the candlelight during Earth Hour...
Held a snake at work...
Rudy is runnin around like he owns the place...
And we've had some pretty amazing sunrises and sunsets
Oh!! Turns out Australia has daylight savings too. And it happened on Saturday. So that's that.
Friday night we had dinner in Chinatown...
Bar hopped in Surry Hills...and then stumbled upon a classy karaoke establishment called Ding Dong Dang
I'm not a huge karaoke fan- I'm more about unforgettable solo performances with live music (aka singing Ke$ha to all my fans at The Big Bang). However, when I DO partake in karaoke, I like to sing to a large, loud audience in a dark smoky room. Ding Dang Dong was the exact opposite of this.
There we were, in our own private room (which looked like a 5 year old's bedroom) staring at each other in the harsh light. Luckily there was a DISCO BALL to set the mood... And we started pumping out the tunes...
It was a very interesting experience, to say the least!
Moving right along...
Several people have asked me about healthcare/pharmacies in Australia. Well they have public healthcare for citizens so most everyone has Medicare. John and I have private insurance through our employer since we are here on a visa. Healthcare and insurance is a pretty confusing thing. Its also extra confusing when you are one of a handful of people who don't have the standard policy. I had to go to a doctor to get some prescriptions refreshed and it was pretty similar to a doctors visit back home- except it felt more like a crowded DMV than a quiet doctors office. One weird thing I learned the hard way- when you go to a "chemist" to get your prescription filled, you have to hold on to the actual prescription for all future fills as well. I thought they stored the info in their system (it's 2014, right?) so I threw the prescription away. Well..had to get the doctor to write me a new one. I'm holding on to that baby this time. I guess it gives you the freedom to go to any pharmacy you want. I explained to the pharmacist how it works in the states and she was amazed--"that's a great idea!!!"
Well...I think that's it. I'll leave you with another cute pic of Rudy.
