The Whitsundays are a group of 74 islands off the Queensland coast- between the mainland and The Great Barrier Reef. Most of the islands are uninhabited and are filled with rain forests, hiking trails, and beautiful beaches.
We made it to Airlie Beach Friday morning. It's a laid back beach town that is the main departure point to the islands. We ate, drank, and sunned at the local lagoon...
The water was SO blue!
The best way to explore the Whitsundays is via boat.. so that's what we did! We set sail on "The Blizzard" for a 3-day cruise. There were 10 passengers and 2 crew members. The deckhand was also the chef and they took very good care of us. It was VERY windy most of the days.. and a little rocky (I didn't spew... but I got close). I was imagining a more "yacht-like" experience. You know.. reading, sunning, sipping champagne on the front of the boat. But we spent most of our time seated in the back hanging on for dear life. I did manage to sip some champagne though ;)
Our sleeping quarters were...tight. To say the least.

Whitehaven Beach was the most impressive. It's known for its white sands-- made of 98% pure silica. The sand on Whitehaven does not contain heat (doesn't hurt to walk on when it's a hot day!) and it's so fine that you can polish your jewelry with it!
Amazing seafood platter!
Rudy was in good hands while we were gone. He hung out at the beach and took his first ferry ride!
It was a really fun & relaxing trip and now we can tick off "sail the Whitsundays" from our bucket list!
